About the University

A wide range of courses, teaching in French and German (sometimes even in English), well organized study programmes, a Faculty open to foreign influences, and a dynamic city, all combine to create an environment ideal to receive the Swiss and foreign students who have chosen to study at our Faculty.

The University of Fribourg, situated in the heart of Switzerland and of Europe was founded in 1889 in the city of Fribourg. It is particularly distinguished by its bilingualism, its international character and its numerous research and teaching specialities.

The Faculty of Law at University of Fribourg is one of the most renowned in Switzerland and, due to the number of students, the third largest in the country. The Faculty offers modern study programmes with attractive possibilities of specialization. The well-structured Bachelor programme lays the basis of the fundamentals of Swiss law and of a methodological approach. The Master programme offers a large range of courses enabling students to obtain advanced knowledge in various fields and to acquire a profile in cutting edge topics. Due to the interactive nature of the intensive courses, the Master programme actively encourages the acquisition of personal and social expertise, in addition to juridical competence.

Extra requirements	According to the language in which you plan on taking your courses, you would need to provide a proof of your language proficiency: an equivalent to a CEFR level B2. Please note that there is a limited range of courses taught in English. Even if the exchange students intend to take only law courses offered in English, they will still have to proof a good basic knowledge of French or German to assure the smooth exchange period abroad. Students from the English taught LLB programme are exempt from this requirement in regards to the English language proficiency for the internal application process at the UG. Important information	Please note that all the English taught courses are of Master level but the exchange students can choose amongst all of the courses offered by the Faculty regardless of the level.

Financial support / Grants	More information on study and placement grants for law students can be found at the website www.rug.nl/law/lep. Switzerland is not a part of the Erasmus programme. However, every exchange student receives a financial support from the Swiss European Mobility Program (SEMP). More information is given to the nominates students by the host university.

Course information can be found in the students report and on the website of the university. Please be aware that the course list on the website of the university might not always be up to date, since the curriculum for next academic year might not be available yet. Furthermore keep in mind that you can only follow the courses open to exchange students.� Students have to proof their proficiency in the German and/or French language. Some of the Law Faculty�s offer a limited range of courses taught in English. The course offer may vary from year to year. Even if law students intend to take only law courses offered in English, they will still have to meet the language requirements.�
