City City: Geneva Country Switzerland About the University Founded in 1559 by Jean Calvin, the University of Geneva (UNIGE) is dedicated to thinking, teaching, dialogue and research. With 16.000 students of more than 140 different nationalities, it is Switzerland's second largest university.
UNIGE offers more than 280 types of degrees and more than 250 Continuing Education programmes covering an extremely wide variety of fields: exact sciences, medicine and humanities. Its domains of excellence in research include life sciences (molecular biology, bio-informatics), physics of elementary particles, and astrophysics. UNIGE is also host and co-host to six National Centres of Competence in Research: Frontiers in Genetics, Materials with Novel Electronic Properties (MaNEP), Chemical Biology, Affective Sciences, Synaptic Bases of Mental Diseases and LIVES-Overcoming vulnerabilities in a life course perspective.
Just like the city of Geneva itself, the university enjoys a strong international reputation, both for the quality of its research (it ranks among the top institutions among the League of European Research Universities) and the excellence of its education. FrenchLanguage test results needed Yes: see extra requirements for more information Language courses available Yes Extra requirements According to the language in which you plan on taking your courses (French and/or English), you would need to provide a proof of your language proficiency: an equivalent to a CEFR level B2 at the moment of application and C1 before departure.
Even if the exchange students intend to take only law courses offered in English, we strongly recommend to have a good basic knowledge of French to assure the smooth exchange period abroad.
Students from the English taught LLB programme are exempt from this requirement in regards to the English language proficiency for the internal application process at the UG.Important information The courses taught in English at the Faculty of Law are within the framework of the certificate in transnational law: https://www.unige.ch/droit/transnational/en/certificat/ Some of the courses available in this programme ar on a Master level and Bachelor students may enroll in them. However, other LLM courses are not open to exchange students.

Switzerland is not a part of the Erasmus programme. However, every exchange student receives a financial support from the Swiss European Mobility Program (SEMP). More information is given to the nominated students after the selection by the host university. The grant is an equivalent to € 2200 per semster in 2024. - Student Reports
